Not only has the U.S. failed to take meaningful steps to clean up mercury power plant emissions at home, but they have consistently blocked international discussions that could have already led to global agreements on reducing mercury pollution.
The authors admit that their studies did not address genetic sensitivity to mercury and neurological problems arising from exposure that may occur over time. The studies also didn't address the risks to the fetus from maternal mercury exposure.
