George had a passion for God's calling for him, George McCormick was the man God called upon to blend medicine and law.

And he did so more effectively than anyone I know. I want people to understand what an incredibly dedicated and capable man Dr. McCormick has been, and how faithfully he served the people of this parish. We lived next door to each other and spent many nights in his office talking about a variety of things -- law, medicine, politics, history and, quite importantly, faith. He was a true Bible scholar, and very faithful.

In order to ensure there was no question about making sure the obligations of the office were fulfilled, he executed a letter on Sept. 19 confirming (Hayes') appointment as chief deputy coroner of Caddo Parish. There's no election required. The Caddo Commission can call an election, or they can allow the chief deputy to carry out the function until the next scheduled election.

He was born in Germantown, just outside of Memphis. There's a family plot there.
