There is no level of crime that is so bad... that rights no longer exist.
You are talking about a prison population of hundreds who have decided that with no conceivable change in their future that they just don't care to live anymore, or they are going to make a statement in dying.
If they're being taken solely for the purpose of drawing their men out of hiding, it can even appear to look like hostage taking.
There's just no way to have a fair trial. They continue to charge people with things that were not previously crimes or not previously recognized as war crimes in a process that didn't previously exist.
It's telling that the person who got the most time was the one all over television. The less in the news, the lighter the sentence seems to be.
The idea of turning over thousands of detainees to a system that's barely got itself together, much less has shown itself to be reliable, would be frightening.
