It wasn't the best round of golf I've ever played but certainly the best in a while. For the last few weeks I've been telling my wife and everyone else who would listen that I just haven't been able to shoot that low round I needed, and today it finally happened.
There is a perception that this event is not important to the players, but I can assure you it is very significant to me, and it was significant for a number of others who tried like heck to make the team but didn't quite get here.
It always helps to start the way I did. After the first four holes I thought I had a chance to shoot a low one. What was nice was that I made about four nice par saves and it makes a big difference when you're not taking bogeys and giving back those birdies.
I made some great putts. I just had the rhythm and the feel.
That won the tournament for me, for sure.
When you're off for a long time and you come back, you expect your game to come back fast.
It's kind of got a bucket look to it.
It just kind of felt like my day towards the end of the day,
It just kind of came out of nowhere. I haven't been playing great. I haven't been getting as much out of my rounds as I could.
I was grumbling. I wanted to go home. I called my wife and said I was coming home. She said, 'There's nothing to do here. Why don't you stay down there and practice?' So I did.
