I think we were perceived as the big, bad city trying to take their land. It's not as if we were trying to annex. This land is nearly worthless without it being cleaned up. And it's only worth something if we work together to clean it up.
We kind of lost in extra innings. Somewhere in between sending them a suggested resolution and their vote not to support it ... I should have done a little more face-to-face. Basically, two years of hard work was killed by their failure to vote on something.
They (the school district) couldn't just give the property to us. They would probably be willing to help by reducing the cost.
It's my understanding that they will be breaking ground in March and should have the building pad down by April.
We'll look at all of the numbers and see how they add up so we can begin applying them consistently.
Having a plan for an end-use would help.
We're just getting into the process to look at it. I think we could have an ad hoc group to develop something that would be a middle-of-the-road, sensible approach to it.
