Tom Brands (born April 9, 1968) is an American former Olympic wrestler and is currently the head coach of the University of Iowa men's wrestling team. He won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics.[1] (wikipedia)
I worked with Iowa last night. They're looking to bring me in sometime next week. I have not talked to Ohio State - we've been missing each other.
I'll answer all those questions when it happens. From my perspective, it's all positives.
It wasn't a street-fighting contest, but it was a street-fighting mentality. And frankly, that's why the Brands brothers had a bad rap. Nobody could handle the level we competed at. Nobody -- except for the people that was on our side.
I'd be a liar if I sat here and told you this isn't what I've worked my whole career for. There is no place I wanted to coach other than Iowa. I was late for some things as a kid, but I was never late for Iowa public television broadcasts of Iowa wrestling.
You've got a lot of passionate people here that are working hard to make sure that our guys are getting what they need.
I can't express how happy I am that my former coach, Dan Gable, has decided to join my staff at Iowa. He's been with me every step of the way during my career and this will be no different. There's no one in the world who's better at working with wrestlers and I'm glad he's on board.
We have to put everything aside as far as hard feelings as there always is in this process. My biggest priority is to unite the program. I'm excited for the challenge.
I have not talked to Ohio State ? we've been missing each other.
There is concern that we are taking a step back. I don?t guarantee anything like results, that?s just not the way I was raised. I?m not saying there is just unbelievable greatness waiting to happen ? but we have potential for that just because of guys? attitudes and work ethics.
Academics and wrestling, you cant separate the two.
