He was a giant. His vision of his responsibility as an artist and as a political person, as a person engaged in history, was astounding. He set out to reclaim African-American history for African-Americans. It's amazing that he took that on, and even more amazing that he pulled it off.

Nancy was a writer with a lot of soul. That's something that most critics either don't have the opportunity to share with you or just can't. She had the kind of humanity that is embracing.
