Obviously the market was very nervous about what the Fed is going to do tomorrow.... But I think by the end of today people began to get optimistic that things are not quite as bad as they seemed to be last week and prices are actually pretty good right now.

Certainly, people are waiting to hear what Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is going to say.

I expected today was going to be pretty choppy, ... We were again seeing a real conflict within the tech sector between people who believe values are low enough to buy and people still concerned about (possible) announcements of slowing growth, that the economy was coming in for a hard landing and nothing but bad news would be coming out.

I think it's just carry over from yesterday. People are still very nervous about what's happening in the technology sector with earnings warnings. There's clearly some buyers stepping in today.

I think that some people are waiting to see whether the market is beginning to indicate one way or the other, whether the Fed will do something different. So there's money on the sidelines right now.

I think that a lot of people are on the sidelines, having positioned their portfolio already in advance of the Fed meeting, and not wanting to do anything in case the Fed actually surprises us.

I think there was a shock reaction (at first) and then people said 'Is this very worse than we thought it was going to be?' And the answer was no. Yes, it was a down day but it wasn't very much of a down day, ... I think the sentiment is cautious but not as worried as would be expected.

I think the rest of it was probably just the general feeling that techs had run toward the end of August and people were again beginning to get a little nervous about what was going on,

People are beginning to think that we've seen the worst of the pre-announcements and missing forecast news. There's also increasing speculation that the Fed will cut interest rates by one-half a percent on Wednesday.

People are selling everything, and that is different because it suggests a lack of attention to which companies are going to be fine. This could be a good sign for the market to start moving higher, not necessarily tomorrow, but as we get toward the end of this.

People are really uncertain about whether we're going to see a lot more earnings disappointments or whether we're towardÊ the bottom of the cycle as the Fed started to ease.

Over the weekend there were a lot of reports in the U.S. talking about how the people who think the worst is over are probably wrong, and I think the market always gets nervous after a rally.

Overall nobody's seeing great ideas out there and people aren't excited about anything right at the moment.

Overall today, I think the market's just sort of looking for direction. The same old worries began to resurface as people got back into the swing of trading. Instead of the morning optimism, it just became the same old, same old. The worries about higher rates, about lower earnings, about was the world's economy slowing began to show up again.

People just got very nervous about technology all of a sudden. After a rally earlier in the day, the Nasdaq just begun to drop.

People have just been waiting for the end of bad news. They may not be right, but at least they're hoping we've seen.

I think people decided this morning's sell-off was probably a mistake.

Today was -- and I expect tomorrow to be -- quiet. I think many people have already begun the Easter holiday and it would take a big surprise in something tomorrow for the market to move very strongly one way or the other.

You have one of those people who everybody watches for signs of bad news saying things are good, and I think that certainly helped,

What we saw today was people deciding that the non-technology sector really held some good values,

At some point, people are going to say 'If Lucent keeps reporting that everything is bad, how long can Nortel continue to look good?'

They are also up almost 40 percent year to date. So people may have taken this as the last of the good news.

So now we're getting not only the sell-off in technology but the sell-off in all the interest-sensitive stocks and every place else that people have been putting money.

People sell on fear and when they have a chance to look at the fundamentals, begin to think again about whether the fear they had really made sense and buy back in.

People began to say 'I don't know if things will go any lower so maybe today is a good day to step in.' But I do think it's nibbling, nobody is taking large bites yet,

Any little signal like this can lead people to sell first and to think about it later ... and it's partially a response to nervousness over whether the good times can continue,

This kind of swinging huge amounts from hour to hour suggests that people are not looking much at the fundamentals and not grounding their trading decisions in what's really going on with the companies.

It was a very strange day, I think. Thursday the market hadn't bothered to listen. Today, they listened, ... We saw some profit-taking because things have been moving (up) so much. As people begin to get nervous about whether we'd see higher rates and exactly how fast things would grow, they were pulling some money off the table.

It sounds like it's pretty much what we'd expected at this point. But everybody is still worried about how long the consumer can sustain the economy. So the fact they are only up a tenth of a percent, people are beginning to worry whether the consumers are really going to slow down, and the economy with it.

The sentiment is nervous and I think today was very negative. People were getting both more nervous and less enthusiastic about where things were going.

At the same time people are now focused on May 16 -- and is that bad news for tech stocks?

In Canada and U.S., people are watching for (inflation) to be higher then it was last month. In the U.S. everyone is just nervous about whether we're going to see numbers higher than anticipated because that would make the (Federal Reserve Board) less likely to cut more interest rates.

Clearly, the people who are buying growth stocks are saying the good news from a series of interest rates in the U.S. and Canada will mean inflation remains under control. The overall sentiment today was basically optimistic.

I don't see this as an ongoing decline in technology shares, I do think it's a warning to people whose portfolios have become very overweight in technology that they might want to reconsider the risk in their portfolios, to use this as a head's up.

All of the normal sectors were people beginning to worry about interest rates and about future profitability and future growth, they really dropped.

The market was spending sometime digesting whether this meant more rate hikes for longer and concluded this was nothing different than what people had anticipated. At that point, it was 'let's do this some more,'

People are worried where additional supply will come from.
