It's becoming increasingly clear that Sun is betting its business on Niagara, but as they attempt to buy time and momentum with an early product release, a number of challenges remain. Sun is pushing chip multi threading (CMT), which IBM's Power chips have had for some time. It's unclear why a customer would go with Sun's new processor platform when IBM has proven CMT technology and industry-standard benchmarks that continue to demonstrate the superior performance and speed of POWER.
