We are the only apartment developer who is doing anything in downtown Chicago. We are taking office buildings and converting to apartments, when everybody else is converting them to condos. We plan to be more and more and more downtown. Let everybody else sell their buildings for condos and we will be very happy.

Well, we found a bunch of abandoned buildings and we are actually going to go ahead and try to retrieve some of these Ak-47s assault rifles that they have been using to shoot at helicopters and some of the people trying to get back into the city to get it back up and running.

We can conceptualize smart buildings where the atmosphere inside each room is sensed and controlled in regions to accommodate varying preferences of its occupants. Water in the soil (and) chemical composition of the environment can be monitored and controlled inside hothouses or even in vineyards and fields. The key is to go beyond sensing the changes of physical quantities to closing the loop around the sensor webs, which means making accurate decisions based on the information.

Those massive between-the-wars brick apartment buildings that stand in dour solidity - their benefits, their endurance all turned inward, and not nervously flaunted in the manner of their flimsier postwar descendants.

In my opinion, further consideration of those views will help us find a way out of the current impasse, and reveal to us the kinds of buildings and cities required by the informational society.
