I went to a Cal Tech party after the 'Facebook' movie came out, and there were kids in dark rooms coding because it was cool again. That movie made it cool to sit in a room at a party and write code.

My favorite player growing up was Cal Ripken Jr.. To play that many consecutive games, he played hurt a lot. I loved that about him. That's the kind of guy I want on my team. That's the kind of guy I want to go to battle with.

No one thought we could even get this far. No one thought we could give Cal this much of a game.

But my heart goes out to him and his club because they are 180 degrees in the opposite of what me and my players are feeling.

If we hadn't beaten Cal and Arizona back-to-back you could sit and say this team never has demonstrated any ability to compete with guys at the top level programs. But we did.

Playing in front of a big crowd always adds to the level of excitement for a home game, and it will definitely help our team. Having fellow student athletes as a part of that crowd will help even more. Our team has a lot of respect for all the athletes at Santa Clara, and having players from every sports team at Santa Clara in attendance is going to be cool. I'm sure it is going to give our team extra incentive to perform well against Princeton and Cal State Monterey Bay.

I still think we're seeing some major kids who go out of state, but you're getting different types of programs each year that are getting those players. When the Big 8 merged into the Big 12, it opened up a whole new avenue of recruits to look at the northern schools. Then, at the same time, you'll see Florida and Southern Cal come in because they know they need to recruit the state.

We needed a win like this. We've played better since Cal (a 69-56 win on Dec. 10), but we really haven't rocked anybody. But tonight we kept the foot on the gas.

We had no business even being in the games with Cal State Fullerton or San Diego State. Our kids just did a great job of competing, fighting and not quitting under tough circumstances.

Tom had a lot of passion for his job and for the Blue Jays, he was like Cal Ripken, ... He showed up day in, day out, rain or shine, day or night. He worked at his profession from day one until the final broadcast.

What happened in Mission Bay with Stanford, as far as I am concerned, will stay in Mission Bay. Yeah, losing to Stanford sucked, I am not going to lie about that, but that is in the past and thankfully we have this weekend to let them know that Cal is back in business.

The team came out fired up to play Cal State Bernardino and we've always had good games with them in the past. We were up 7-1 at the half and held up the rest of the way. We executed counterattack really well and played really good defense.

After Santa Barbara, everyone knew that we had to come out with a different level of intensity and a different level of focus that maybe we hadn't had. The Cal Poly players were kind of jawing at us before the game and got us fired up.

As far as I am concerned they are just as good as Southern Cal last year. I don't see a weakness on their team right now even though they lost the game the other night.

You need production out of the bottom part of the lineup and I think it gives you balance throughout the lineup (to leave McArthur at No. 8). That?s been the story of our offense over the years. At Cal State Fullerton, we like to set it up so there?s not an out in the lineup.

Ally wrote us and we had a really good feel about her from the beginning. She wanted Cal to fit.

A lot of things can happen. There are no guarantees that we're going to win. There are no guarantees that Texas and Southern Cal are going to win.

They're improved-no doubt about that. It seems like they're experienced kids now. Their experience is showing. Cal really stepped up and we didn't have the answers in the end.

They're a young team, and we've got young players too. But, we've also got strong veterans on our team that we can rely on. Cal doesn't have that luxury.

It's been something that's been lingering in my mind for awhile. For the Stanford and Cal games, I really didn't feel comfortable , but I wanted to go out there and try and help the team get a win. It was a tough way to lose, a hard-fought and very emotional game. And it was a great shot by Cal to win it.

It's a paper-thin margin. It's irrelevant, because Virginia Tech is not going to catch Southern Cal and they have a faint hope of catching Texas. Virginia Tech isn't going to catch Southern Cal before they (the Trojans) catch Texas.

It's a little disappointing, but it's early and there is a lot of the season left. Cal State Bakersfield beat us, so they deserve to be ranked higher, but like I said, there is a lot of basketball to be played.

It was a great win considering the adversity of being without a couple of players. Cal has a very good team and a very tough home court. I was really pleased. It was a total team effort with a number of kids who haven't had a big game in a while.

It's very hard. You see the score and you want to slack up. But you can't because Cal is on the sideline getting after you. He wants the intensity up at all times. I can see why, but it's pretty hard to stay focused.

They have one guy that committed to Cal for good reason. I don't want to fuel the fire, but he may not be the best guy. They've got two other guys that are also very good.

Once again, Cal is going to have a top 10 (in the nation) strength of schedule ranking. Our players and coaches wouldn't want it any other way.

It's not at all like other sites. Reno pulls the biggest crowd by far. There's a lot of hometown support. Boxing is known throughout Reno. They really support it. At Cal (Berkeley) or Vegas they don't get half the draw.

I'm in shock. I'm in awe. These guys I've been honored to coach have kept surprising me and surprising me and surprising me. This is the greatest turnaround in Cal State Fullerton history.

I'm pleased that we were able to extend a scholarship to Alex for this season. Nobody works any harder than Alex, and he is a great representative of a Cal basketball student-athlete.

I'm confident this is something the neighborhood can get behind. Cal Anderson Park is in the heart of the neighborhood. The cart will be a positive experience for workers and customers. The tea cart can help a few homeless people get closer to a full-time job, and it can help bring together a lot of different groups in the community.

In the end, arguing about affirmative action in selective colleges is like arguing about the size of a spigot while ignoring the pool and the pipeline that feed it. Slots at Duke and Princeton and Cal are finite.

I know Cal has had a great time with this fact. They've had a lot of fun with it. I'd like to not let them have so much fun with it. We'd like to win the game and put that one behind us a little bit.

In two weeks, we're going to be in Houston playing Rice. It was good that we were able to come out here and play an opponent like Cal State Fullerton. We think that should really prepare us for Conference USA.

I really didn't think I deserved a penalty. (Southern Cal star) Reggie Bush (does) it every week and he doesn't ever get penalties. I do it one time and I get 15 (yards). That's messed up.

I read somewhere that we had, next to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, the toughest non-conference schedule in our league. It felt like it was tough, and whether it's going to pay off for us we'll see. That's only one game.

Cal is going to be tough. We are looking for some people to step up against the competition and break out. Both Cal and us are battling with some injuries. We played them tough the first time around for most of the game and then had a couple errors get us in the hole.

Cal is a very good team. We've seen them a lot, and it's going to be interesting. We know their weaknesses and strengths, and they know ours. We've just got to stick to our plan.

Cal does want to play us. We will be in compliance with (NCAA Bylaw) 30.9 (which sets the scholarship rules), soon. But we aren't yet.

Cal Dive also has some counter cyclical aspects to their business, ... They provide decommissioning services and maintenance services in the Gulf. So even when times are bad, they're still doing decommissioning and maintenance.

Cal and Stanford are always tough houses - always! We just have to play our game, do what we've been doing and keep the crowd out of it.

Cal was a close friend. He has done a lot of good things over the past three years (as chief) ... filling his shoes will be a big undertaking.

Cal State Fullerton will be a good test for us. After this series, we'll have a much better idea of where we need to improve.

Cal Poly is a feisty team. We have always had intense battles with them and the home team has come away victorious the last four years. Their team is pretty well experienced and deep. John Nguyen has had a solid year with impressive wins at the top position.

Cal Poly has had a difficult start but they are a very strong team. We need to beat them in both games and get our record back up to where we need to be.
