The worst is still happening. It's an absolute disaster and I don't think one can determine the real cost.
Be it in the West or the developing world, we are confronting grave problems in the violation of children's rights. We want to put a face on this crisis, rather than just have people feel sorry for the little children.
Without an immediate cessation in hostilities and a massive humanitarian response, I fear that ... large numbers of Angola's children will perish,
It is estimated there are more than 3 billion people in the world who live on less than $2 a day. Half of these are children and half of those are living on less than $1 a day.
I don't think we know at his point the numbers killed, but 800,000 people are already affected and at least half of those are in urgent need of food aid and assistance.
Many of the schools are not usable anymore so the kids can't go back to school. Some children have been actually hurt by the fighting itself but probably more of them have been hurt by the psychological damage,
Many would argue (child labor) has to occur because families need to have their child bringing home that small amount of money. But the fact is that if those children were in school today they could contribute more to their families,
We cannot assume that all the children who cannot find their parents have lost their entire families,
Vast numbers of people are still in torment in Rwanda, ... But few remain as vulnerable as the children living in parentless households. They are the most marginalized of the poor in an area of almost unimaginable suffering and want.
I think tremendous change has taken place since the World Summit for Children in 1990.
Thus the Convention is unequivocal in its call for children to be consulted, to have their opinions heard and to have their best interests considered when law and policies are being drafted.
I think he is an entertainer. I would prefer if he were a performer.
And most importantly perhaps, children can learn about their rights, share their knowledge with the children of other nations, identify problems with them and establish how they might work together to address them.
Nor is the suffering limited to children in developing countries.
