There were a lot of races I was going to win at Milwaukee, but I had mechanical problems or something would happen, ... In the early years, it just took a long time for me to win a race. I got in somebody's oil one time and got in the wall, had a clutch go out once. . . so when I finally won one, it was a long time coming.

It started as a hobby when I was a kid, and I'm finishing as a hobby.

I am going to be doing some practicing on Thursday and Friday and we run some qualifying heats on Saturday, ... I've wanted to do this for a while. I wanted to have a good car when we did it. I think we've got a good car.

Wisconsin will bring people from Wausau and Kaukauna and La Crosse, so you don't only get the good fan base from the greater Milwaukee area, but a lot of people come in, especially with the MARS cars coming in and the Mid-American cars from all over the state, bringing in their fan base, their parents and children and grandpas and whatever, ... It's really a fun weekend.

You try to run the best line. I had about the fifth-fastest time, but I think a couple of guys got sleds that are house sleds. They've got their own name on them, that kind of stuff.

It was junk. The motor was broken out of place, the front end was smashed. It was only a couple of hours before the race, so I thought we were done,

I love Wisconsin, but it made my life better (when he went to Cup racing). I had done about everything in short tracks that you can do. It was a new challenge for me to come down here and it gave me a new look on life. It was a different battlefield that gave me a new lease on life.

I play with my tractors and live somewhat of a family life and just try to enjoy trying to retire sooner or later.

I am pretty well retired, ... I run Slinger and Milwaukee and certain other shows. It's kind of like a hobby.

I feel I have lived during one of the best eras of racing there ever was. From Rudolph, Wis., to Daytona, it has increased 1,000-fold. When I first started racing you were looked down upon. Now, you're a celebrity and I'm not just talking about myself. Even if racing hadn't gotten so popular, I would still have done it.
