expressed on more than one occasion that those who committed this crime, whether Syrians or not, are traitors and they have to be put to justice.
This heinous crime runs counter to all the principles that Syria holds... and was against Syrian interests.
Although some did promise to assist us and provide technical equipment for border control, they have failed to come through on their promises.
Syria will not allow this, did not allow this. This is not in the interest of either Syria or Lebanon. Our position is not to allow any such activity.
Syria was showing great interest in this summit, the Syrian delegation in New York was following up political preparations for it,
Syria is not incapable of establishing a resistance and deterrent balance that would force Israel to reconsider its calculations,
Syria is innocent of this crime. Syria is ready and willing to put to trial any Syrian conclusively implicated in that crime.
We did not hinder the investigation. The main objective for Syria was to uncover and give a full picture of how the crime happened.
If we don't all have the spirit of compromise, ... then we shall lose the momentum, we shall lose the spirit of coming out with a document that unites the United Nations and unites all of us.
I would like to confirm once again that Syria believes, strongly believes, that it is innocent and the committee has to look somewhere else to find those who committed this heinous crime.
