We applaud the courageous person that made this referral, and congratulate our investigators and fiscal managers that have worked hundreds of hours investigating this case. We mean business when we say we are going to clean up programs and run a tighter ship. We will urge prosecution to the full extent of the law for those who abuse the system and misuse public resources taking them away from those who need them most. This agency is on course to reform its operations; those that are defrauding DSS may want to consider coming forward of their own accord.

If we get a couple of those shots to pop in, it could be a momentum changer. Unfortunately, it?s the bounce of the ball. Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it stays out.

If individuals are intent on cheating, they can be quite creative in their efforts. What they need to know is that we are working harder than ever before to ferret out dishonesty, waste, fraud, abuse and inefficiencies. We are going to come to work every day and do our very best to safeguard tax payer dollars and see that they are spent as they were meant to be.

We need additional help to respond here in Missouri, as well as assisting with the request to dispatch workers to hurricane-affected regions. Active department employees are needed here to handle the increased workload.

Wildlife, septic systems, agriculture, boats and road run-off all contributed to the problem. The town has worked to try to get these things corrected.

At halftime we talked about how they had to set a personal goal of getting to ground balls with the mindset that every ground ball belongs to us.

It was a must-win, really, to keep our playoff hunt going. We had a tough game (Tuesday, a 10-7 loss to St. Thomas) and we knew we?d be tired. We were sluggish at the beginning, but the kids responded. That was a good fourth quarter.

The closing was real tough because that part of the river is where many of the oysters are. Our biggest population of oysters is up there.
