I spend a good chunk of my time as I travel building and maintaining personal relationships with existing partners and colleagues and developing new relationships with clients and recruits. Lawyers who can work anywhere tend to want to join a firm where they can be successful and where they can have friends and be liked.

We're moving toward being a billion-dollar company, and we needed to formalize our development like other large companies do and not rely on the on-the-job training I had. These are things that are critical to running our business but aren't things you naturally learn in law school.
