That competition has helped us. We'll be as prepared as we can be, but the time off will really help us, too. We needed a rest.
I think our inexperience and our youth is really starting to catch up with us a little bit. Proctor will be ready to go.
He didn't want to come out and we didn't want to take him out. He works his rear end off.
He didn't play that much and he was really a skinny kid. He had the natural tools. He had good size, he could run ? stuff I'm sure the Yankees saw over time when others maybe didn't. But you couldn't tell.
It feels great. I'm really, really happy for the kids.
(Proctor) is 100 percent every pitch, every at bat. He's a great guy to have at the plate in that situation.
He's very good. He made two 3-pointers that were at least 28 feet. He handles the ball well and makes everybody around him better.
I told the kids I was proud of them. I don't think losing is part of their thought process. I don't mean that from a boastful standpoint. They just feel as long as there's time left, there's an opportunity to win.
I've never coached or played a game that I've felt that way. Too many coaches and athletes tend to take that side, that it just isn't their day. I say make it your day.
We're not beating that team if they're shooting like that . . . they play hard. I was very pleased with our kids, though. They surely didn't back down or give in.
