This is something we can build on. The season is young. We just have to go back and keep working hard.
We just couldn't get in sync, particularly offensively. We just couldn't get anything going. And they (Middletown) were basically playing from their own 40 to our goal line. We never really ever pinned them deep because we couldn't get any field position.
They played hard and they played with a certain sense of emotion and perhaps at the be-ginning we didn't match it. They were hungry for that win. When you coach a team that didn't have a good season in the previous year and you're hungry for that win, sometimes that's tough to beat.
They have a very quick quarterback and they have a running back who ran very well (in the Injury Fund). If we don't do the things we're supposed to do defensively, we can get burned.
When one part of the 'D' worked well, the other part broke down. Our team defense didn't play well enough to win tonight.
We played hard, but we had a lot of mistakes.
We played hard but we didn't play a good football game tonight.
We couldn't control the line of scrimmage, they did. They deserved to win.
As many seniors as we lost, we have a handful of guys that played a lot last year. Those guys are going to have to carry us. We may take some lumps because teams know us now, but we have a year under our belt so we know teams now, too. This isn't foreign anymore.
That penalty was a mistake that hurt us.
