What we have created is a major resource for our community for years to come. It's a work that will be read 100 years from now. We've given a voice to people largely ignored in previous books African-Americans, Hispanics, women and other ethnic groups.

We have an anthology of articles written by a team of authors.

When I first envisioned this book back in 2002, I had no idea it would become the massive project it has become. It has been so long since local residents had the chance to participate by sending in family histories.

You have to realize that at that time, the Cherry mine was considered to be the safe mine. Yet, it wasn't safe enough.

These types of things need to be kept alive. That's so we all understand and realize what happened.
