The $6,000 payment was a blatant violation. The circumstances surrounding this violation are especially troubling because the former coaches concealed the cash payment from administrators at the institution for over five years.
The result was an environment that allowed for violations of NCAA legislation. Numerous bylaws were misinterpreted, large numbers of student-athletes were certified improperly and many student-athletes competed while ineligible.
Certainly it would have significant influence on whether the committee would add a second year.
The decision before the committee was whether the conduct in the case violated NCAA bylaws. And to that, the committee obviously has a great deal to say.
