He loved to ski barefoot and enjoyed making his own skis. He would soak boards in water, and put them on blocks. Then he would drive his model A car up on them and let it sit while they dried. It would form a curve in them. He loved the outdoors.
They closed the resort from October 1 through March 1 each year. His love was camping and traveling. They made some lifelong friends at the resort.
I think that is what probably triggered his love of traveling. He took an early retirement at the age of 54 and he kept traveling.
