I thought somebody had just died, either her mother or my father. When she said the church was on fire, I thought it was probably just the kitchen area. I couldn't conceive that the church building could be gone.
When we went through it, we had nowhere to turn, no one to talk to who had a similar experience. Small, rural churches usually have no money and little or no insurance to rebuild. So we helped form an organization that gives guidance to pastors whose churches have burned.
