With the exception of a bad four-game stretch, I competed really well. I felt I did a lot of things well. In the third set I decided to try to take it to him more and hit harder and deeper.
It's almost like you work so hard and almost try too hard. Before I'd come out almost unprepared and sort of wing it. I'm trying to find a happy medium. Hopefully, things will go up from here.
It's big to come back from a disappointing match in a team environment. I've gotten a lot of support from these guys. It's never hard to get up for Davis Cup.
I've been pretty good about keeping my nose to the grindstone. I feel like I won a lot of matches from hard work and persistence, even maybe when I had better options as far as shot-making.
Max played well. He always serves good and didn't miss many volleys. Sometimes you don't feel you're on the court against him. It can go by so quickly, it's hard to find a rhythm.
At the start of the third, I was able to hit the ball harder and deeper. That was key for me.
It's never hard to get up for Davis Cup, but I'm looking forward to getting out there and proving myself again.
