He's a real quality baseball man. He's been a big asset for us this year. I know he hasn't had any managerial experience but he's managed the game behind the plate for so many years that I think it makes up for a lot.
We just tried to get the best staff possible. We both thought having people with managerial experience would be great.
You can't do this job with a GM and a manager that don't see eye to eye, that aren't on the same page, ... That's a recipe for disaster.
This is my ninth year as general manager and, when you find players who can perform on the big stage in New York, it makes it that much more important to retain those players.
