If I had to give a grade to Howard Stringer, I'd give him a C-plus. Sony still wants to be the master of the universe. They want to conquer entertainment; they want to conquer consumer electronics; they want to conquer games.
Sony faces the prospect of swallowing several hundred dollars in losses per machine until production volumes get high enough to drive down costs. It may take years to bring those costs down.
Sony cannot afford a big delay for this product. Making PS 3 a success is critical for the company overall.
I'm still not convinced that Sony can stir growth. They have to come up with something nobody can imitate but consumers will buy. But they haven't given any details how they plan to do that.
They want to make sure they capture Japan first. Sony is not in such a hurry to market this overseas.
