The psychology is just not there for the economy to make any substantial move until we get through the Fed meeting. There's really no selling pressure, it's just tremendous volatility.

There's going to be this flip-flop next week and continually until we get through earnings season, going from earnings to worrying about the economic slowdown and what inflation brings so I think next week is going to be marked by that. There's more of a defensive style coming into the market. People are going to look for the opportunity to be in the market during this (results) season and will look at more defensive investments until we get through pre-releases. I'm no longer fearful of earnings, I'm fearful of the pre-releases.

It was unanimous we'd have a year-end rally until the yield curve inverted. We wanted to close the market on a high note this year, but now we're worried that the 2006 market will have to deal with this. The next Federal Reserve meeting will be extremely critical. We have to hope this isn't predictive of a recession or a slowing economy.

That's going to dominate the market today until we get more information. A potential story like this from an OPEC producer brings up the worry that oil can spike to new highs very easily. We see the reaction in equities when oil goes higher. It stops equities in their tracks.

There really isn't any dramatic news to come out post-Fed ? we're going to get into that earnings void, the next meeting for the Fed isn't until late June, so I think the story is how well the pullback in this market will be contained.

Don't buy your favorite stock until you see the earnings statement. It's better to have the trend with you than guess at a bottom.

I am not looking at long-term because it is working against investments. There's certainly going to be an implied warning (by the Fed) which means that we're 'on hold' until August.

I do believe an investor shouldn't change their philosophy just because it's post-Fed, ... I think the aggressive, more short term oriented philosophy that has worked the first seven months of the year will still be the philosophy until that strategy is proven to be wrong.
