We're a nation of many different communities and different cultures and it's great to be able to celebrate that here today.

The people of Newmarket- Aurora (her Ontario riding north of Toronto) elected me. They are the ones who will either re-elect me, or throw me out in the next election. I answer to the people of my community not to the political operators of the NDP.

When I made the decision to leave I could have potentially been in an election just two to three days after. Mr. Emerson campaigned as a Liberal and just a few days after the election made the decision to leave.

For me this was a very difficult decision. I had to do a lot of reflection and inner searching. I came to the conclusion that I can best serve Canada and my constituents in this capacity.

At the end of the day you have to be driven by principle and you've got to be driven by passion and your belief in what this country can be.

I regret to say that I do not believe the (Conservative) Party's leader is truly sensitive to the needs of each part of the country and just how big and complex Canada really is,
