Last year, we topped out at about 40 West Nile cases statewide. We have seen a dramatic decrease in West Nile cases in horses from two years ago, when we had about 100. We're hoping to cut that in half again this year.
Our achievement has really contributed to us winning this award. Particularly with our English As A Second Language (ESL) students, their achievement is tremendous.
We had 70 percent failing, now we have up to 70 percent proficiency.
We assume our fruits and vegetables are protected. As we learned from 9/11, you can't take anything for granted.
Now, it's a matter of seeing whether the funding is forthcoming. We're trying to make lemonade from lemons, but the border needs protecting and it isn't happening.
