I think it's very reflective of how ready Texas-22 is for a change. I think it's pretty startling when even the party brass won't get behind Tom DeLay.
I think the 10th District (of North Carolina) sent him to Washington to work for them, not Tom DeLay or Karl Rove.
It is early, but we're an aggressive committee. It's going to take an aggressive effort to unseat Pombo and that's what we're working toward. We think Congressman Pombo has made himself vulnerable on the issues.
We are actively recruiting the best candidates we can.
What's clear is that these incumbents see the writing on the wall for election 2006, that even while Tom Reynolds begs his members to stay put, this is a good year for Republicans to quietly fade off into the sunset and disappear from politics, not try to fight to stay in it.
We are certainly taking a close look at the district. If you believe you're in a safe seat and you're not voting along party lines, we're going to put a tough candidate up against you.
We certainly believe that Congressman Taylor is vulnerable.
His decision is his, and we wish him all the best.
