There is no question he is going to help us. Going into this weekend ... there is a possibility he would start the fourth game of the series.

I feel confident that we will win this series and make the adjustments, just having four opportunities outside to catch fly balls and take ground balls off an infield, I think we're going to be OK.

I expect it to be a relatively low scoring series, if we can keep the scores around the same as last year we should do fine. It's going to be who makes the fewest mistakes and who is going to be able to run their offense by getting their lead-off man on.

We've finished second in the conference two years in a row, but to get over the hurdle you've got to be able to put runs on the board. We've played a lot of low-scoring ballgames and we didn't score early in a ballgame ... so we kept coming back late.

I think the No. 1 thing is people want to see us, even if people have to bring their own lawn chairs. I think they want to come in and see even at 5-18 how good this team is. I don't think that will really deter anybody, I think people will come regardless of how done it is.

Over the last four years, Schmidgall has proven that he is one of the best players to ever wear a Western Illinois University baseball jersey. Rob pitched two really good innings at Chicago State. ... In his last three or four outings he's really looked good. He has really turned it on and that's really comforting to me because now we have three or four guys that we can go to in situations.

(Yesterday) was just a case that we didn't get good starting pitching and it put us behind. We just couldn't get back into our offense.

We had good enough pitching that we should have won both games (on Sunday), but the could of, would of, should of window is getting old. We not only didn't hit with runners in scoring position but we struck out.

We could not get a base hit with runners in scoring position; we just could not buy a big base hit.

We didn't deserve to win that game. We had opportunities to win, but we ... made so many mistakes in that fourth inning, it was just a game in which we made far too many mistakes to deserve to win.

With everything we just did, you would think we're going to win that game. One minute you think you're going to win or at least tie it, and then you get a double play ball and the game's over so that definitely took a little wind out of our sails.

Umpires typically turn their back on the rule. Unfortunately, we can't assume every umpire is going to be old school and turn their back on it.

South Dakota State is applying for membership in the Mid-Con. They're going to come in here this weekend and make a statement ... if they want to make a case to play in the Mid-Con, they sure as heck want to go out and beat up on two of the Mid-Con teams.

It's a little frustrating because we had to make the call pretty early (yesterday). We knew we may have a small window to play from noon to 3 (p.m.), but they had a nine to 10 hour drive back.

It's hard to find an answer when you hit the ball well all weekend and then you can't hit with runners in scoring position.

I don't really like the two-game series because in a three-game series I'm going to get more answers. Only playing two games, I'll get some answers this weekend but I won't get a lot because we really wanted all 12 pitchers to throw.
