Wayne Morganwas the Iowa State University men's basketball coach from 2003 to 2006. He was Iowa State University’s first African American head basketball coach... (wikipedia)
When we drove, they had some really big guys in there. Aldridge looks like he's 7-foot-1 to me because he's way bigger than our 6-10 guys.
We're going to have to pull up our bootstraps.
We did nothing wrong. Damon Archibald did not do anything wrong. Damon did nothing illegal. He never tried to gain anything or get anything other than ascertain a good schedule for us.
Maybe he's made a mistake; we all make mistakes in this life, but if you look at his accomplishments as a basketball coach and his contributions to the game of college basketball, I don't think there's any question he should be in the Hall of Fame.
But those guys are very skilled and very agile. Although the size and strength of some of the people they play against will create a problem for us, I think their skill and quickness and athletic ability will create a problem for some of those teams.
I don't remember a night like he had in my 30 years of coaching. They moved the ball around from side-to-side, and either they shot or they went inside.
He's playing great. Obviously, in my opinion there's no one in the conference playing as well as he is right now. Any success we've been able to have, he's the reason for it.
It is so fortunate to have two great guards (Blalock and Stinson) playing together,
Our team needs to get to the free-throw line a little more, and also we need to foul a little less.
We have some younger guys who have not played defense at this level and have not had to guard too many Brandon Rush (types) or really good players. It's going to take time to adjust keeping those guys in front of them.
We have a lot of games that we have to win.
We'll look at the film and try to come up with a strategy to combat that. We'll go over there and battle as best we can.
You can look at the stat sheet like I can. One thing jumps right off the page. I know they got 25 free throws, and we got four.
We weren't strong enough to get the ball out of his hands or strong enough to stop him from catching the ball. I have no other explanation than that.
We lost, and we had a significant loss. There's nothing to draw positive from it. They only thing we can do positive from it is to look at what we did wrong and correct those mistakes.
At this point, it's not a matter of whether I was treated unfairly or not.
I wanted to get that feeling of camaraderie on the day before the game.
As far as what's going on in the coaching world - my focus is on Oklahoma State and Oklahoma State only. If we're fortunate enough to win that game, we will go back to the hotel and watch film of our next opponent.
They symbolically cross the spear and the rifle, and that's the mascot.
There were five situations on their free throws where we had four guys in the lane to their two, and they still came up with the rebound. That's unconscionable. To me, that's the worst play in basketball - and it happened five times.
There were a bunch of competitive kids on both sides.
They probably have the second-best (inside players) in the conference. Obviously Texas has the best, but Nebraska's three guys average 20 rebounds a game. They're killing people in terms of rebounding.
They play hard. They play together. They have more of a vision. Everyone understands what everyone else is doing, because they've been playing together for a long time.
It wasn't our offense that hurt us, it was our defense. They had guys that could shoot the ball. We were supposed to make them bounce the ball first, and we didn't do that. We came out with a hand up, and that's not good enough.
I wanted them to take it to the basket. I wasn't on the court. From where I sat I thought maybe we should have a chance to shoot free throws. The referees didn't see that.
They are going to do everything they can to win this game.
In my opinion, there's no one in the conference that's playing better. Any success that we've been able to have, he's the key reason for it.
He played very hard and tried to do everything he could to help us win. I'm proud of his effort.
The league's been all about freshmen this season, therefore people have the perception the Big 12 is not as good as it's been in the past.
